Health insurance in France

It is obligatory to have health insurance in France!

__If you are a European Student: __

You do not have to register with the social security system if you have a European Health Card. This card must cover the entire period of your stay in France. You must apply for it with your home

health service. You will give ESA a recto-verso copy of this card when you arrive here.

European Health Card

If you do not have this card when you arrive here, you must register with the French Social Security System. Don't worry, it is free!

__If you are a non-European student: __

You must register with the French Social Security System, even if you have private health insurance in your home country. Registration with the French Social Security System is obligatory for all non-European students undertaking a study period of longer than 3 months.

First-time international students who are nationals of a State outside the European Union / European Economic Area and Switzerland are required to join the General Health Insurance Scheme (CPAM = Primary Health Insurance Fund). You will benefit from the same social coverage as all students in France.  It is free to register.

The site dedicated to joining the CPAM is https://etudiant-etranger.ameli.fr/#/ (available in French and English).
